Pena wins in Burbank, CA

Ulisses Pena TKO7 Justo Sanchez... Local favorite Ulises Pena captured a regional lightweight title with a seventh-round technical knockout over veteran Justo Sanchez last night in Burbank, California. A right hand to the body forced Sanchez to hunch over and inform referee Jack Reiss that he could not continue. Pena, who was seemingly pitching a shutout at the time of the stoppage, improves to 14-5 with 4 KOs. Sanchez drops to 16-18 with a single stoppage victory.

Marco Angel Perez W8 Gustavo Tapia... In the Burbank co-feature, veteran Marco Angel Perez got back on the winning track after consecutive stoppage losses to Julio Diaz and Juan Lazcano. Perez outlanded fellow veteran Gustavo Tapia in an eight-round junior welterweight bout to win by unanimous decision. Perez was the aggressor throughout, as Tapia was content to try and make Perez miss and throw combinations in spots. Perez gets his 22nd pro win against eight losses, 14 of the wins are by KO. Tapia falls to 11-21-3 with 4 KOs.Â
