Pavlik to throw out first pitch tonight

Holy Rotisserie League!  Undefeated world middleweight champion KELLY "THE GHOST" PAVLIK has been tapped to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before tonight's American League Championship Series game at Jacobs Field, between the host Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox.  Cleveland leads the Red Sox two game to one in the best of seven series.  Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs), from Youngstown, OH, has been celebrated by his home state since he knocked out defending champion Jermain Taylor in the seventh round of their September 29 world title fight in Atlantic City which was televised nationally on HBO.  Tonight's honor is merely the latest.

Last Sunday, Pavlik, at the invitation of the Cleveland Browns, performed the honorary coin flip before their game against the Miami Dolphins -- a game won by the Browns 41-31.  After the coin flip, Pavlik watched the game with Hall of Famer Jim Brown.

Recently, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan introduced House Resolution 713 honoring Pavlik, trainer Jack Loew, Team Pavlik and Pavlik's fans from Northeast Ohio into the 1st Session of the 110th Congress on Wednesday. It was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:

"Now, therefore, let it be Resolved, That the House of Representatives— (1) congratulates Kelly Pavlik on his victory Sept. 29th, 2007 which earned him the World Middleweight Boxing Championship; and (2) honors Kelly Pavlik for his commitment and continuing loyalty to his community."

Pavlik was also a guest of the Youngstown State football team and spoke to the Penguins following practice at Stambaugh Stadium and posed for photographs with the players, who swarmed over him and put their fists up as a collective sign of cheer, recognition and support.

Next month he accepted invitations from Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James to attend the November 16 home game against Utah and Ohio State coach Jim Tressel to travel with the team November 17 for the Buckeyes' game at Michigan.

Pavlik will also be with promoter Bob Arum on November 10, sitting ringside for the world welterweight championship between defending champion Miguel Cotto and three-division world champion Sugar Shane Mosley which will be televised live by HBO Pay-Per-View.

It's only a matter of time before his name appears on a ballot at the Iowa Caucus!
