Paez Jr in action on Saturday night!

Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ undefeated teenage sensation Jorge Paez Jr. makes his six-round debut when he faces Armand Horn in a lightweight bout Aug. 19 in El Paso, Texas. The 18-year-old Paez, who has a record of 9-0 with seven knockouts, is coming off two four-round, unanimous decision wins on HBO pay-per-view cards.  On May 6 in Las Vegas he beat Lowell Brownfield and on June 10 in Atlantic City, N.J., he bested Travis Hartman.

“I have plenty of time to develop; I’m only 18,” said Paez Jr., the son of former International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Jorge Paez.  “I know ultimately I will be a world champion. I’m confident of that.  I hope I can be as great a champion as my father was.”

“Jorge Junior is a very special talent,” said Glenn Quiroga, president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

“It’s time for Jorge Junior to move up to six round bouts,” said Scott Woodworth, vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.  “This will allow him even more opportunity to show that what many in boxing have been saying is true, that Jorge is the finest young prospect in the sport.”

Paez Jr., who had an amateur record of 77-3, including a win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in an exhibition contest, is managed by Andy Ruiz.

The 27-year-old Horn, from St. Agnes, Mich., has a record of 13-1 with 11 knockouts.

The card Aug. 19 at the Don Haskins Center also features two other sons of former world champions: Chavez Jr., son of Julio Cesar Chavez, and Jose “Pipino” Cuevas Jr., son of Jose “Pipino” Cuevas.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions of San Diego is considered to be the fastest-growing and most dynamic promotional entity in the sport.  Sycuan Ringside Promotions made its promotional debut during 2004, but already has or had four world champions and has promoted and presented world title bouts across the country on premium cable networks.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions has many notable boxers in its stable in addition to Paez Jr., including welterweight world champion Carlos Baldomir, World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez, IBF lightweight interim champion Julio Diaz, World Boxing Association super bantamweight interim champion Celstino Caballero, undefeated former WBO junior featherweight champion Joan Guzman and former WBO bantamweight champion Mauricio Martinez.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions is led by Quiroga; Willie Tucker, executive vice president; and Woodworth.
