Pacquiao stops Velazquez

Manny Pacquiao did his part to ensure a second fight with Erik Morales when he defeated Hector Velazquez by sixth-round technical knockout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Pacquiao started slowly, and was tagged with several very solid shots in the first two rounds, raising the possibility of a huge upset. However, the third round marked a reversal of momentum as Pacquiao found the mark with his body attack.  He hurt Velazquez near the end of the fifth and dropped him to his knees in the sixth, which led the referee to stop the bout. Pacquiao, who led on the scorecards at he time of the stoppage, is now 40-3-2 while Velazquez falls to 42-11-2 but did well enough that he can expect his phone to ring for more television fights. -Scott Shaffer
