Pac-Man brutalizes Diaz in Vegas

Pacquiao is now boxing's brightest star

Manny Pacquiao KO9 David Diaz...  In a fight that went on long enough to recall memories of Leavander Johnson's life-ending loss in defense of a lightweight title, Manny Pacquiao laid a frightful beating on David Diaz.  Finally, Pacquiao landed a short left hook that dropped Diaz face first to the canvas and the fight was over. Pacquiao's title belt collection now stretches from flyweight to lightweight after Saturday night's brutal dismantling of a WBC paper champion, David Diaz.  Pacquiao had better power, speed and skill than Diaz, beating the Chicogoan to a bloody pulp. So dominant was Pacquiao that he made Diaz, a former U.S. Olympian, look like a lumbering pug. Diaz had a cut on the bridge of his nose, a cut over his right eye (although that may have been from an accidental butt), and a blackened left eye, not to mention blood soaked trunks.  Diaz landed some good punches, but overall he gamely absorbed a frightening amount of punishment. Referee Vic Drakulich and Diaz's corner let the fight go on too long, but, amazingly, Diaz seemed fine during a post-fight interview.  If there was any doubt about whether Pacquiao deserved to inherit Floyd Mayweather's mythical pound-for-pound championship, this performance silenced them. source: hbo ppv
