GL: The last time you and I spoke you expressed a great deal of interest in moving down to welterweight to fight Sugar Shane Mosley. Have your people been in touch with Golden Boy to see what can come of that situation? "I spoke to my people at Golden Boy and they haven't given me an answer on that. I know Mosley said he would fight me and I'll fight anybody whoever is out there for me to fight. Whoever wants to fight me on HBO, whoever HBO wants me to fight I'm here to make it happen."
GL: Are you disappointed that you're going to be on the Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather Jr undercard?
Kassim Ouma: "I'm not disappointed because whatever they were trying to pay me was nothing. For what they were trying to offer me I was insulted and I was expecting more from them. I know they are a good promoter and they can make things happen and that's why I signed with them, but right now I have nothing on the schedule."
GL: But you just told me they offered you a fight on the De La Hoya-Mayweather undercard.
KO: "In my last fight I fought for the middleweight championship of the world and I got $800,000 and they took $150,000 of it. You know why? Because they said I owed them money and stuff, now on an undercard where De La Hoya is going to make $40M they offered me $50,000 for a fighter like me. I never want to talk bad, but I'm very upset about the way things have been going."
"My manager Tom spoke to Golden Boy and told them I want to fight Mosley, if Mosley says he wants to make it happen, I don't believe him because the fight's not on right now. To me Shane Mosley is a chicken."
"I fought my last fight at 160 against Jermain Taylor and now I'm willing to move down to 147 to fight Mosley or the winner of Zab Judah and Miguel Cotto."
GL: Cory Spinks has a fight coming up against Jermain Taylor, even if he doesn't beat Taylor would you still want to fight Spinks for his 154 pound title?
KO: "Definitely I would do that. He has my title still, he won that from the guy who beat me so I want to fight him definitely. I think he's going to give Jermain Taylor a lot of trouble."
GL: Who do you like in that fight?
KO: "I think Spinks is going to win. You know why? Because Jermain Taylor is a bitch. He likes to fight small guys and he likes to hold, but Spinks will be running and boxing so he won't be able to hold him and he's a lefty so Jermain is going to be in trouble. I want to fight Cory Spinks if he wins or loses against Taylor it doesn't matter to me."
GL: When you fought on the De La Hoya-Mayorga undercard following your loss to Karmazin did Golden Boy pay you more than the $50,000 they offered for May 5?
KO: "Yeah I got paid a lot more and that fight wasn't as big as this one. I signed with them because they're a great promoter but right now things aren't going great when they offer me $50,000 to fight on that show. From 147-160 I will fight anybody so it doesn't matter to me, all HBO has to do is tell me who they want me to fight. They say African fighters come and go but I'm still here and I'm 28 years old and I'm not going anywhere."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
KO: "I love my fans and I love Boxingtalk.com for keeping me out there. My fans in Africa love Boxingtalk too. Hold me down, I love the fans and you'll me as soon as Shane Mosley stops running from me."
