GL: Oscar I've been hearing things are getting pretty heated between you and Floyd Mayweather Jr. I've been hearing he got in your face and has been stalking you around Miami. "I literally thought he was a stalker the way he was following me. But he has no idea what he has done. He has brought out the fire inside. Right now my motivation is out of hand. I can't wait to get back home to train hard. He has no idea what he did. Things happen for a reason and this is the final little piece to the puzzle that I needed to start my camp. Oh, he has no idea."
GL: What exactly did he say to you Oscar?
Oscar De La Hoya: "Nothing really. He said he's going whoop my ass. What did he say? He said he's going to break my ass, but I'm like what are you talking about you can't even break an egg!"
GL: I spoke with Floyd a little while ago. He told me that not only will he win this fight he will knock you out. Floyd told me that the fight won't even be competitive now that his father won't be training you. What are your thoughts on that?
ODLH: "I have all the respect in the world for Floyd Sr. He'll always be my man, and I know...I hope he understands this situation. I care for him a lot, but I'm like a spongue. When I was with Floyd Sr, I absorbed what he taught me and I'm not going to forget. I know this is going to be one heck of a fight. I know that I'm going to bring everything I have to this ring and I'm willing to leave it all in there that night. I'm going to be in the best shape of my life and Mayweather's just made a huge mistake."
GL: Does it surprise you that after saying so many of the right things to get the fight done, Mayweather is quickly trying to get under your skin?
ODLH: "It doesn't surprise me one bit. I've been there and done that. I know his style and I know what he tries to do. He tries to get into the fighter's head, but being the professional that I am that stuff doesn't work at all. I have a shield around me, I absorb the good and bounce the bad out."
GL: But you are taking his trash talking as motivational correct?
ODLH: "The motivation was him getting into my face talking junk. That's all I needed to hear. Now I know. I saw his true colors. The gas was already running inside of me, I just needed that little spark to ignite the flame and he did it and now it's on."
GL: He called you a punk the last two guys to call you a punk were Mayorga and Vargas and we all know how those fights ended, do you expect this fight to have the same ending?
ODLH: "I can be the biggest punk in the world outside of the ring, but come May 5 when it's just me and him inside the ring we're going to see who the punk is."
GL: Obviously you're knockout prediction hasn't changed a bit, correct?
ODLH: "Not at all. Mayweather has a good defense against opponents that don't know how to break that defense. I know how to break that defense, believe me."
GL: Mayweather is still saying that he's going toe to toe with you, is that music to your ears?
ODLH: "He better stand toe to toe. People are paying a lot of money and a lot of people are going to be watching so he better put on a good fight. He better stand right there in the middle of the ring and fight. He better put on a hell of a fight because that's what I'm coming to do. He thinks he's the best pound for pound fighter in the world, on May 5 he's got to prove it. May 5 is his stage to show the world that he's the best fighter in the world against the best 154 pounder in the world."
GL: Floyd is describing this event as the biggest event in sporting history. With that being said how important is it that this fight lives up to the hype?
ODLH: "Believe me, I have a responsibility to put on a tremendous fight and on my end I'm going in there with everything. Nothing is going to hurt me. May 5 is going to be a flash in my mind, that's how perfect that night has to be. It's up to Floyd he's got to prove to the world that he's the best pound for pound in the world by fighting on May 5."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
ODLH: With regards to Floyd Sr, who I respect a great deal, I just hope he understands this whole situation and I plan on talking with him very soon."
