GL: Ricardo Mayorga told me that his potential fight with Fernando Vargas is not going to happen and he made it clear that he's coming back down to weltwerweight and he wants to fight you. How do you feel about him calling you out again? "It feels good to have him calling me out. He's definitely a strong fighter and he comes to fight, but I think I have plans to try and get a Mayweather at this time and I think that's what HBO really wants. That's why I'm waiting right now as we speak. If nothing comes with the Mayweather thing, there's Kermit Cintron or whoever. If they fight at 147 and HBO wants the fight, it doesn't matter to me who it is."
GL: Does it confuse you that you're waiting to see what happens with Floyd Mayweather when A) he says he's retiring and B) you've made it clear you feel Oscar is going to beat him on May 5?
Sugar Shane Mosley: "Well maybe when Oscar beats him he'll want to come down to 147, otherwise I'll be the welterweight champion. Right now I'm keeping myself in shape and I want to make the big fights and make the big money so we'll see. Cotto is fighting Zab and we'll see where that goes. Margarito will be fighting Williams."
GL: In other words, rather than rush into the ring you're going to evaluate the landscape after the fights you just mentioned take place?
SSM: "Yeah, and not only that HBO had nothing available to me in June. Oscar is fighting in May and Hopkins is fighting in July. June has Klitschko. I'm probably going to be fighting again sometime between August and November. After these fights happen we're going to sit down as a team and evaluate the welterweight division and the opportunities out there before making the best decision. Right now I'm in limbo but I feel great to be able to spar with Oscar and help get him ready and I tell you that's been some great work and Oscar is going to be ready."
GL: It sounds like you're walking through a casino and I can barely hear you, so we'll wrap this one short. Is there anything you'd like to say to the fans in closing?
SSM: "I'm going to fight the best in the division and boxing fans can look forward to more great things from me and Golden Boy Promotions."
