One on One with James Toney

GL: What's the latest and greatest since we last spoke? I understand you met with Dan Goossen on Friday afternoon, what was the result of that meeting? "They want me to do a non-title fight, a tune-up fight in San Jose on May 24. I got a baby due around the same time, the baby is due on May 21."

GL: Any potential opponents?

James Toney: "They haven't mentioned any yet, but they're going to be filling me in. We're trying to get a couple of tune up fights. I want to stay busy. I want to fight in May and then come right back in June. It's going to be a bum of the month tour, I'm entitled to it."

GL: In your opinion everything other heavyweight but you is a bum so does that mean it could be anybody?

JT: "And that's for real. You know I'll fight whoever. I'll fight my momma if I got to fight it doesn't matter. Whatever they want to do we can do it anytime anywhere."

GL: Since your wife is due around May 21 won't that be a distraction if you're supposed to be fighting on May 24?

JT: "I'm going to be there for her if I have to fly back and forth. Right now me and Billy (Blanks) are doing the damn thing everday. I feel great, I feel fantastic and I've been keeping myself busy."

GL: The last time we spoke Vassily Jirov and Sergei Liakhovich were the topics of dicussion. Why is that no longer the case?

JT: "Nah, because they want too much money for the fight and they're not putting the money out there for the fight. I would love to fight Jirov and Liakhovich right in a second, I would love to. But they're acting like they're the draws or something."

GL: So you're basically going to stay busy until the right opportunity presents itself to you?

JT: "I don't look for opportunity, it finds me. I'll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime, that's the motto."

GL: What do you think about Klitschko-Brewster II?

JT: "I think Lamon knocks him out again. Klitschko is a bum. He's a three time bum. Him and his brother, they're both soft as a baby ass. They had belts handed to them with easy bums who were hand picked and spoon fed. How can we take the Klitschko seriously when HBO picks their opponents and it's nothing but bums?

GL: Who do you like in Maskaev-Peter?

JT: "I beat Peter's ass and he's done. I wouldn't be surprised if he got knocked out. I wish him the best, but those fights with me wore him out."

GL: So now he's 24 going on 35?

JT: "He ain't no 24 years. You know how those Africans lie about their age, he's in his 30's and now he's going on 50."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

JT: "To all the fans out there, keep your ears and eyes open because I'm coming through. Shout outs to Greg Leon with the number one boxing show on the planet, holla at your boy."
