Tuesday’s Olympic boxing action featured the flyweight and bantamweight divisions. At flyweight, Ron Siler made it four wins in as many bouts for American boxers by topping Australia’s Bradley Hore by a score of 32-18. Cuba also remained undefeated in Athens when Yuriorkis Gamboa Toledano decisioned Igori Samoilenco of Moldova 46-33. In bantamweight bouts, Cuban star Guillermo Rigondeaux tripled the output of China’s Yuan Liu 21-7. In the 2000 Olympics, Rigondeaux beat Clarence Vinson on his way to capturing the gold medal. It was bad news for Mexico as its brightest medal hope, Abner Mares, was upset by Zsolt Bedak of Hungary, 36-27. Mares is trained by Alfonso Marquez, who played a large role in guiding Francisco Bojado’s career prior to the 2000 Olympics and in his first nine pro bouts.
