Olympic Update: Lightweight Escobedo Keeps America Perfect

American Vicente Escobedo, Cuban Mario Kindelan and Briton Amir Khan all scored third-round stoppages in the lightweight division at the Olympic boxing competition on Monday. Escobedo made it three for three for American boxers with a victory over Jose David Mosquera of Colombia. Next up for Escobedo, who comes from Woodland Hills, California, is Rovshan Huseynov of Azerbaijan. If he wins that one, he will likely face Kindelan, who beat a Nigerian opponent. Kindelan won gold four years ago over Andreas Kotelnik, who turned pro and is now Boxingtalk’s fifteenth-rated junior welterweight. Meanwhile, Khan, who at just seventeen years old is England’s only boxer in the Olympics, defeated Marios Kaperonis of Greece, the host nation.
