Press Release: Due to the withdrawal of Martin Power from his proposed clash with Jason Booth at Crystal Palace on June 15, 2007, the new main event will feature Ajose Olusegun 19-0 (10 KOs) against underrated Gary Reid 13-16-1 (8) for the vacant Commonwealth light welterweight title. Olusegun, 27, has been waiting for 18 months for a title shot. Reid, 34, is considered by many to be boxing’s Cinderella man having caused some upsets in Britain.
Reid has been awaiting an opportunity such as this to crown his past achievements and take the title he deserves. Reid is eager to add to his highly impressive recent record that has seen him gain all three of his victories in the past 12 months by way of knockout. “I see myself as the Cinderella man of boxing,” Reid said. “All my career I have wanted to fight for a major title and this is my opportunity. I have no fear of Ajose and I am getting into that ring to knock him out.”
The top-of-the-bill is supported by an action packed card headed by the reappearance of Tshifhiwa Munyai, the undefeated Commonwealth bantamweight champion.
Also present will be John McDermott, a heavyweight who attempts to increase his already impressive record of 14 stoppages from 21 victories when he clashes with Luke Simpkin.
All eyes will be on Tony Salem, a light heavyweight, when he makes his fourth appearance of 2007 by stepping into the ring with London’s Nick Okoth. “I watched Tony Oakey’s British light heavyweight victory last week and I believe I am the most talented challenger for that belt as Peter Haymer, who fought on the same card, was defeated by Paul David who I beat easily in January.”
“After this I will be looking towards a British title and hope to have the opportunity to fight for a belt by the end of the year.”
Also on the card will be Gary Woolcombe, victorious in 22 of his 23 bouts, Sam Webb, Scott Woolford, Lee Cook and Jamie Radford.
