Mike Oliver W12 Gary Stark... Over twelve rounds of exciting, fast-paced junior featherweight action, Mike Oliver defeated Gary Stark, Jr. in a bout that seemingly belonged to Stark. Before the last round, Oliver's trainer, the respected John Scully, told Oliver he needed a knockout to win, while Stark's father/trainer told his son that he was ahead. Three minutes later, the judges in Miami, Oklahoma didn't see it that way, giving Oliver the decision by scores of 116-112 (twice) and 115-113. Both Showtime announcers thought Stark did enough to take Oliver's regional title belt. Oliver won the first round, and perhaps that affected how the judges viewed the next eleven. Despite enduring a grueling trip from New York to Oklahoma that saw his long-delayed flight get him into town just 24 hours before the opening bell, Stark seemed busier and energetic than Oliver, who did a lot of holding. Oliver did seem to have faster hands than Stark, and both men deserve a lot of credit for a great fight. Oliver remains undefeated at 18-0, while Starks drops to 18-1. A rematch would be welcome by anyone who saw this fight, perhaps in a Connecticut casino, which is midway between their home bases. source: ShoBox on Showtime
Allen Conyers TKO2 Derek Ennis... New York's Allen Conyers won a two-round slugfest over Derek Ennis via second-round technical knockout. Ennis won the first round, although Conyers landed a couple of big punches. In the second round, all-out war ensued and Ennis was virtually out on his feet for an extended period of time. Ennis was supported by the ropes for what should have been scored a knockdown, but it was academic as Conyers kept up the punishment until the referee had no choice but to stop the action. source: ShoBox on Showtime
