Noted trainer Stephen Edwards is sold on Boots Ennis

Noted Philadelphia trainer and boxing historian Stephen "Breadman" Edwards is sold on IBF welterweight champion Jaron "Boots" Ennis (pictured) and his chance to transcend his era and go down in the sport's history. Here is a Facebook comment the Breadman made over the weekend: "I believe Terence Crawford is an all-time great. And I don't use that term loosely. I'm not saying he's better but all fighters have historically hybrid comparisons. I believe Crawford is a mix of Floyd Mayweather, Mike McCallum and Ray Leonard. He's brilliant. I say that to say no one is a full level above Ennis. I have watched Ennis in the gym since 2014. And if 90% of what I've seen [of Ennis] in the gym shows up in real fights, with the right promotional guidance, he's going to be a top 20 fighter EVER. And a unified champion at 147-154-160 which is the hardest trifecta in boxing history. Ennis [is] the best display of talent I have ever seen in the gym. Ever!!! He's 50/50 with Crawford right now. Im not saying he would win [against Crawford] because he leaves small gaps to be clipped. And if I can see it, Crawford's team sees it. But Crawford's best chance to beat him is a puncher's chance. Ennis is harder to win rounds against. I don't think Ennis has lost more than three clean rounds in his entire career-- now 32 fights in. Archive this comment. Giving Ennis the eyeball test. He's Ray Leonard-Tommy Hearns level good."
