New champion alert: Pedro Taduran captures IBF 105-pound title

Pedro Taduran TKO4 Samuel Salva... For the second straight time, the IBF minimumweight title has dramatically fallen into the hands of a huge underdog. In an all-Filipino battle held in Manila, unheralded Pedro Taduran upset the favored Samuel Salva to capture a piece of the world 105-pound championship. Coming into the bout, Taduran (14-2) had never beaten a contender and lost a 2018 title bid to WBC minimumweight champion Chayaphon Moonsri. Things looked even worse for Taduran when Salva (17-1) knocked him down in the first round. But Taduran recovered and turned up the heat in round three. For two rounds, Taduran punished Salva, and Salva quit on his stool after round four. The IBF title was vacant going into this fight, as last year's Cinderella man, Deejay Kriel had vacated the title due to a disappointing purse bid that would have paid him about $17,000 to fight Salva. Kriel intends to move up to 108 pounds, but must feel badly about avoiding Salva seeing as how poorly Salva did. Kriel acquired the title in February with a dramatic last-round KO of Carlos Licona, a fight in which Kreel was hopelessly behind on points. source: abs-cbn sports
