Melissa Mortensen W10 Mayelli Flores ... The night’s other title fight at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California produced a new champion, as Denmark's Melissa Mortensen climbed off the deck from a knockdown to edge Mayelli Flores of Mexico by split decision and claim the vacant WBA super bantamweight belt. In round two, Flores landed a hook to the body that dropped Mortensen. By round seven, blood was flowing from Mortensen’s nose. In the end however, Mortensen defeated Flores via scores of 95-94 (twice) and 94-95. She improves to 10-0 and claimed the vacant WBA 122-pound title. Flores (13-4-1) formerly held this title, but lost it to Ellie Scotney in April. Scotney then moved up to featherweight, allowing Mortensen and Flores to vie for the vacant title.
