Tapales brought the fight to Murodjon Akhmadaliev and was the aggressor. Tapales won the bout, which was held in San Antonio, Texas, by split decision. There were two official scores of 115-113 Tapales, overruling a 118-110 tally that favored Akhmadaliev. A former WBO bantamweight champion, Tapales is now 37-3, while Akhmadaliev is 14-3 including the World Series of Boxing.
