New champion alert: Mario Barrios upgraded by WBC

With world welterweight champion. Terence Crawford moving up to junior middleweight, the WBC Board of Governors has voted to elevate interim champion Mario Barrios to WBC world champion. Crawford will be designated WBC welterweight champion in recess, which could be valuable to him if he decides to drop back down to the 147-pound division. Barrios, from San Antonio, Texas conquered the WBC interim championship on September 30th, 2023, when he defeated Yordenis Ugas in an exciting fight. In his most recent bout, Barrios defeated Fabian Maidana by decision in Las Vegas.
 
The IBF welterweight champion is Jaron "Boots" Ennis, while Crawford is still recognozed for the time being by the WBO and WBA.
