New champion alert: Hutchinson gains title at 175

Willy Hutchinson W12 Joshua Buatsi... Willy Hutchinson was crowned WBC light heavyweight champion on Saturday night at AO Arena in Manchester, England, and live on DAZN. Hutchinson won the vacant titke by defeating Joshua Buatsi via unanimous decision in their rematch. Judges scored it 117-112 and 115-113 (twice). Buatsi (21-4 including the Wolrd Series of Boxing)had won their first encounter back in 2024. Though his activity slowed late, 'The Hutch Train' ran express for most of the fight, setting the tone with his jab, hooks wrapped around the guard and slick movement out of harm's way. His output was crisp, clean and effective, while Buatsi fell flat in the biggest opportunity of his career after defeating Hutchinson by split decision back in September 2024. Buatsi looked sluggish over large stretches of the fight, increasing his urgency in the 11th round when it was too little, too late. Hutchinson won the title vacated by David Benavidez in a move up to cruiserweight.
