New Jersey to use instant replay in boxing

The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board has announced that, effective immediately, it will allow instant replay to be used during boxing matches to review a referee's call or lack of a call. Here is how it will work: the lead promoter of a show will decide whether instant replay will be used in a particular show and it will be up to that promoter to have the technology readily available. When a bout on an instant replay show begins, a boxer's chief second can approach the commission supervisor at ringside and request a review, which would occur as soon as the round ends.  The bout would be temporarily stopped during the rest period for a maximum of three minutes to render a decision. The commssion can also elect to reserve judgment if further review is needed. The bout would then be restarted. The use of instant replay will be used for reviewing knockdowns versus slips, accidental versus intentional fouls, whether a cut was the result of legal blow, whether a fighter beat the count, low blows, and whether or not a punch landed before the bell rang. The rule will also apply to mixed martial arts contests.
