GL: What's the latest and greatest with Nate Campbell? "I'm out here in Fort Lauderdale with John David Jackson, and I'm doing my thing getting ready for my next fight."
GL: Your next fight will take place against Ricky Quiles in an IBF eliminaor. Can you give us some thoughts on that fight as well as getting back into the title hunt?
Nate Campbell: "I'm blessed. I'm truly blessed and now it's going to be full steam ahead. I'm blessed to be in this position and I'm just happy to be fighting again."
GL: What do you know about Quiles as a fighter and how do you see this fight going?
NC: "I know him very well because he was my sparring partner many times and he was my chief sparring partner for Casamayor. You could say we're friends, we don't write each, but we get along real well, but the bottom line is, this is business."
GL: How important is it for you to put on consistent performances? In one fight you're superb and in the next fight you're not.
NC: "Here's the misconception about that, I was superb when I fought Kid Diamond I was superb. I was superb in my fight after that and against Isaac Hlatswayo, I lost the fight doing what my corner told me to do. So I get penalized for listenting to what I was told and I would get penalized if I didn't do what I was told, so it was a no win situation for me. I feel as though I'm being penalized for expecting to look superb. Sometimes when you're superb you don't get the win."
GL: So you feel you need to just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine?
NC: "Yes. Since I've come up to lightweight I only have one loss and that came against someone who was six foot one and came into the ring weighing 163 pounds. How can I be penalized for that? I'm not a big man, I'm a 135 pounder. I could go on for days about what might have caused that, but I'm not going to, I will be consistent and I will be victorious."
GL: What's the Nate Campbell blueprint for 2007?
NC: "I'm going to fight Ricky Quiles on March 2 and then I'm going to fight the winner of Jesus Chavez and Julio Diaz. And then after that the only fights I'm going to be looking for are unifcations, I want to unify this division."
GL: And I imagine you feel you have some unfinished business with Joel Casamayor, correct?
NC: "Oh yeah, and you know there's a lot of them I can call out, but right now it's about getting my business in order. Once I get the title a lot of these fights are going to come to me. It's a lot easier to get fights when you're the champion."
GL: Where is the Quiles fight expected to take place?
NC: "I don't know yet, but I will give you a ring as soon as I know."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
NC: "I'm going to become world champion this year. Nothing else matters and now is my time. Everything I've gone through has conditioned me for this. I was married when I started, I'm divorced now. I had a beautiful relationship with a person and now I don't, I was everything to everyone and then I went through a period where I was nothing to no one. Now I am who I am and I don't worry about what peope say, I'm just Nate. And by the way, I want everyone to know I became a grandfather in September and I've officially crowned myself the hottest granpa on the planet."
