"If Manny Pacquaio moves up to lightweight and he wants to fight the best, I'll send him right back down to 130, so he can give the fans another fight with Marquez."
WBA/IBF/WBO lighrweight champion Nate Campbell told Boxingtalk.com, "I heard through the grapevine that Richard Shaefer make a remark that Juan Diaz would be the biggest fight for the Casamayor-Katsidis winner. I feel that it's wrong. If you said you're going to do something different for the sport of boxing, make it different because you're doing what's right for the fight fans. Don't do what you think is best for you, do what is best for boxing and don't disrespect boxing. It would be a great disrespect to boxing to make a fight like after him getting beat handily by me. They have no business making other fight but the winner against me."
GL: The last time we spoke you said it all hadn't sunk in yet. Has it hit you a week later?Nate Campbell: "A little bit. I know I'm world champion. Everybody around me knows that I'm world champion, but that doesn't mean anything if I can't defend it against the best fighters out there."
GL: Will you be in attendance at the Casamayor-Katsidis fight?NC: "You know it. I'll be there with bells on. We tried to get tickets from Golden Boy, but went through some hoopla about that. I'm going to go on my own and Terry's arranged tickets, I'm going to go out and do what I do and let everybody know that I am the best lightweight in the world and if you want to make fights in the lightweight division, then truthfully Nate Campbell is the man."
GL: Not a lot of people know this, but you're known for walking around gyms with two knives on your waist, have your three belts replaced the shivs?NC: "I still got a knife on my hip right now. I carry one with me everywhere I go. It's something in me that's Southern. Most Southern guys carry a pocket knife and it's not always about cutting guys. You might want to cut a piece of fruit, it's just something we do."
GL: What did you think about the David Diaz fight?
NC: "I didn't catch all of it, but I think David looked strong like he always does and he took care of business."
GL: If Manny Pacquiao moves up to lightweight...NC: (cutting in) "If Manny Pacquaio moves up to lightweight and he wants to fight the best, I'll send him right back down to 130, so he can give the fans another fight with Marquez."
GL: Closing thoughts?NC: "I want to thank all of my fans as usual. And I want to thank all of my fans for standing by me after all that I've been through and fighting the best fighters out there. This interview is my statement to the best fighters out there, I want y'all to stand up and be me. I want the winner of Katsidis and Casamayor and I hope Casamayor wins."
