Sources close to the situation have informed Boxingtalk that several New Jersey legislators are considering launching a bid to legalize sports gambling in Atlantic City. Because of competition from new and expanding slot machine parlors in Pennsylvania and Delaware, Atlantic City casinos have experineced a decline in revenue. Although Atlantic City reportedly makes more money from gambling than Las Vegas, a legalization of sports betting would create a major resurgence in casino activity, hotel occupancy and overall revenue for the entire city. A legalized sports book in Atlantic City could have a major impact on boxing in the form of larger fan base, higher ticket sales, bigger promotions, and a general buzz surrounding the sport. Although a legal sports book in Atlantic City may be years away, the promise of anything that helps boxing become a bigger attraction should excite everyone in the boxing industry.      Â
