Morrison, Mesi win in West Virginia

Tommy Morrison KO2 John Castle… Tonight was a night of come-backing heavyweights at the Mountaineer Race Track in Castle, WV. Veteran Tommy Morrison scored a second round knockout against rookie John Castle in a scheduled four rounder. This win marks the start of Morrison’s comeback to the sport and his quest to once again become heavyweight champion of the world. Morrison was best known for his role in “Rocky V” as Tommy “The Machine” Gunn, and a controversial decision win against George Foreman for the vacant WBO title in 1993. Morrison defended that title once before being stopped in the first round by Michael Bentt later that year. He then tested positive for the HIV virus and had one more fight, in 1996 when he stopped Marcus Rhode. Morrison was cleared to fight by West Virginia and he now dubiously claims the HIV diagnosis was a false positive. “I’m negative, and always have been negative,” said Morrison days before the fight. Castle falls to 4-3 with 2 KO’s while Morrison improves to 47-3-1 with 41 KOs.  source: versus network

Joe Mesi KO1 George Linberger... In a scheduled 10 round heavyweight bout, “Baby” Joe Mesi obliterated George Linberger. The bout was stopped at 1:55 of the first round. This knockout victory goes in the books as Mesi’s sixth consecutive victory since returning to the sport in April, 2006. Mesi had not fought since 2004 when it was discovered that he had some internal bleeding of the brain. Further tests have shown a full recovery of Mesi’s condition and he has since continued his quest to become the heavyweight champion. This was also Linberger’s first fight since 2005, where he was last seen winning a split decision of Eric Esch, better known as “Butterbean”. Linberger falls to 29-9-1 with 25 KOs. source: versus network
