Mora gets early Christmas gift over Manfredo Jr!

By Dan Rodkewich @ Ringside

Sergio Mora W8 Peter Manfredo... Much to the delight of his hometown fans, Sergio Mora retained his Contender title and kept his unblemished record in tact with a very questionable split decision over Peter Manfredo Jr. The official scores for this eight rounder were 77-75 Mora (twice) and 77-75 Manfredo. Editor's note: Mora fought bravely with a huge cut over his left eye but it was Manfredo doing the celebrating when the final bell sounded. Punchstats favored the loser, 180-133 in punches landed and so did ESPN announcer and respected trainer Teddy Atlas, 78-75.  Of the official judges, only Marty Denkin agreed with Atlas, scoring it  77-75 in Manfredo's favor. He was overruled 77-75 by the remaining two judges, who had it for Mora.

Jesse Brinkley W5 Anthony Bonsante...  Jesse Brinkley won a five-round unanimous decision over Anthony Bonsante The judges' scores were 49-46, 48-47, 48-47 in favor of Brinkely, but they were not received well by the crowd. Editor's note: Judge Raul Caiz had it 49-46 and Julie Lederman and Fritz Warner had it 48-47, all for Brinkley. By contrast, Punchstat showed Bonsante outlanded Brinkley 141-58 over the five rounds and there was not a single round in which Brinkley was credited with landing more punches than Bonsante. Announcing for ESPN, respected trainer Teddy Atlas scored it a 50-45 shutout for Bonsante.

Alfonso Gomez TKO4 Luciano Perez... Alfonso Gomez dominated Luciano Perez from the outset. Gomez was credited a questionable knockdown in round three, and referee Pat Russell called a quick halt to the bout at the 2:20 mark of round four.

Other results... Miguel Espino showed heart in rallying back from a first-round knockdown to outwork and ultimately stop Jonathan Reid at the 2:48 of the fifth and final round. Juan De la Rosa won a unanimous decision over Jesse Orta in the opening bout of the evening.
