Mora and Manfredo ready to rumble again!

PRESS RELEASE: The highly anticipated rematch between The Contender season one champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora and runner-up Peter “The Pride of Providence” Manfredo, Jr. will air live on ESPN Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 p.m. ET from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. On a night that will include a fight card of former Contender contestants, Mora, the winner of the critically acclaimed series, will look to defend his title on his home turf.

Hosted by Dan Patrick, the two-hour special will be called by ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Joe Tessitore (blow-by-blow) and Teddy Atlas (analyst).  They will be joined by ESPN Hollywood co-host and boxing enthusiast Mario Lopez.  

The undercard will showcase match-ups featuring Alfonso S. Gomez vs. Luciano Perez, Anthony “The Bullet” Bonsante vs. Jesse Brinkley, Jonathan “Reid Dawg” Reid vs. Miguel Espino, and Juan De La Rosa vs. Carlos Orta.

Presented by ESPN, Inc., Mark Burnett Productions and DreamWorks Television, this first-of-three scheduled fights will set the tone for the series’ second season to be aired in April 2006.

THE CONTENDER

The Contender is an unscripted drama about the lives, fears and hopes of 16 professional boxers as they compete for the chance to change their lives and the lives of the people they love forever.  The Contender will air under the ESPN Original Entertainment (EOE) banner and be executive produced by Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice, Rock Star: INXS), Jeffrey Katzenberg and Sylvester Stallone.
