Monte Barrett to face Cliff Couser in Connecticut this weekend

Barrett: "Couser gets destroyed on Saturday!"

GL: What can we expect to see from you against Cliff Couser on Saturday night? "You can definitely expect to see a win. I've watched a few of his fights and he's a good fighter but I'm on another level. My whole thing is to go in there and get a win and move on to bigger and better things."

GL: You were supposed to be fighting Povetkin, who just defeated Larry Donald the other night. Why didn't that fight come off?

Monte Barrett: "The politics of boxing, but everything happens for a reason so I'm just looking forward to destroying Couser and moving onto bigger and better things. I didn't get the fight and everything happens for a reason. I'm pretty sure if I would have fought him things would have been different, but like I said everything happens for a reason. I've always wanted to stay busy and this fight will give me an opportunity to do that. I don't look past nobody because at heavyweight anybody can hurt you and get you out of there. Couser won't have any such luck on Saturday, but that's besides the point. Throughout my whole career, I've only had like one or two stay busy fights so it's a different approach and I'm expecting great results."

GL: How many more fights would you like to get in before the end of the year?

MB: "At least three more."

GL: The last time we spoke you mentioned knocking Andrew Golota out in sparring. Will Cliff Couser go the distance?

MB: "I doubt it. I'm an excellent boxer and I'm much smarter than I was. I've already shown heart and courage, but I'm ready to take my career to the next level as I continue to enhance my ability. I'm out to show people that I will become the heavyweight champion of the world, it's only a matter of time."

GL: Is there any chance you're looking past Couser?

MB: "Not at all. If he wasn't next it would be somebody else. I've never looked past anybody and I'm not going to start that now. I thought I was going to fight Povetkin, but that fight fell through so I took a week off and got back on my grind. I don't know Cliff personally, but if it wasn't him it would be somebody else getting done on Saturday."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

MB: "Keep it locked to Boxingtalk for real talk all day long. No other site out there does as much for the fighters or the boxing community so keep up the good work brother."
