"I’m hurting anything I get in the ring with."
BoxingTalk: Monte, congratulation on your win over Damon Reed last weekend. What were your thoughts of the fight?
Monte Barrett: Every fight I have is a step forward, and I had to press the fight. Once Reed felt my power, he was running from me. He didn’t want to mix it up, and I had to be the stalker.
BoxingTalk: Do you feel a second round stoppage over Reed is a sign of things to come for your future opponents?
Monte Barrett: Hell yeah. Everybody better watch out for me, especially Chris Arroela. What happened is not just with Reed, it’s with all guys I’m going to fight. If I don’t knock them out, I’ll beat them up really bad. I’m focused and I’m hurting anything I get in the ring with.
BoxingTalk: What statement do you believe you made on Saturday?
Monte Barrett: You better watch out!
BoxingTalk: What do you have planned next?
Monte Barrett: I’m in stay-busy mode. I’ll be fighting at the end of February or early March. I don’t turn down nobody. I’m a matchmaker’s dream. That should be my new nickname, Monte “Matchmaker’s Dream” Barrett.
BoxingTalk: When do you feel you will be ready for another title shot?
Monte Barrett: In one more fight. I’m a realist, and I feel in one more fight I’ll be ready for my showcase. Anybody who wants to get beat up on, I’ll fight them.
BoxingTalk: Is there a particular fighter that you would like to face to prove you are one to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division?
Monte Barrett: Anybody who wants to fight me. I’d love to fight Joe Mesi again. I’ll even go to Buffalo to do it.
BoxingTalk: What do you feel is your biggest asset to becoming the world champion?
Monte Barrett: A different outlook. I’m hungry, I’m focused, and I know this is a young man’s game.
BoxingTalk: What would you like to say to your fans who will be coming out to see your next fight?
Monte Barrett: I’m making a challenge to anyone who will fight me. Any heavyweight who says they’re the best, here I am to prove it. Step up!
