BT: Congratulations on your big win, gone in 57 seconds. Can you give us some thoughts on your performance? "It was over before I had a chance to warm up. Tye Fields is a good fighter and he didn't knock out 36 out of 40 because he can't crack. He's big and he's busy, but I was just too focused. It's like I been saying, I'm hungry, I'm starving and this win was just the beginning. As far as my performance, he was doing a good job of preventing me from moving away from his left hand, so I decided to go right because he was leaving himself open to be hit. He threw his left and I countered with the right hand and timberrrr."
BT: Did you ever imagine knocking him out in the first round?
Monte Barrett: "Believe it or not I did. I might have been joking at the time, but now that it's happened I'm taking full credit for it. When this fight was made I told my advisor we've had two second round knockouts in a row, but I'm not trying to be in there that long anymore so we're going to start getting rid of them in one. Now that we got Fields out of the way it's on to bigger and smaller things."
BT: Bigger and smaller things? What does that mean?
MB: "That means if that David Telesco with a British accent A.K.A. David Haye is ready for his first loss I'm ready to give it to him. Fighting David Haye would be a bigger fight than Tye Fields, but he's much smaller. I have no doubt I'm making it two first round knockouts in a row if Haye had the balls to do what Tye Fieds did, sign a contract and come at me in the ring!"
BT: Are you putting all of your eggs in the David Haye basket?
MB: "Not at all, but I'm tired of the way they're acting like this guy coming to the heavyweight division is a big deal. If they're ready to give me some free money to knock out a cruiserweight, I'm ready. I'd sign to fight David Haye tomorrow. I don't turn down fights. Samuel Peter wants some, tomorrow let's go. Arreola, Wednesday. I'll fight any of these guys anytime. Arreola was fighting a guy who was reluctant to fight back, that's not me. If Sam Peter wants to defend his title anytime soon, call Lou DiBella and make it happen."
BT: Would you fight Haye in England?
MB: "Of course, but they've got to make the money right. I would love nothing more than go over there and stop him in front of his fans. I wouldn't beat him, I'd destroy him for thinking he can compete in this division. They call me a small heavyweight, but I'm a real heavyweight and I'm ready to show the world that this cruiserweight doesn't last three minutes in there with a real heavyweight. Let them take the Tye Fields approach, that if you can't beat Monte you're not good enough to do much at heavyweight. I want all the writers to write that, I want everyone to count me out. That motivates me, I want them to say that, I want them to think that because it just makes it that much sweeter when I put them on their back. Haye would be no different. Whether they're 6'9 or 3'6 they're all less than 2 feet tall on their backs, and that's where I'm putting them."
BT: When can we expect you back in the ring?
MB: "Sometime this fall."
BT: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
MB: "I want to thank my fans, my family my entire team, Lou DiBella, Greg Leon and Jimmy Glenn. If David Haye has the balls to fight me, I'll make his heavyweight debut his return to cruiserweight."
