The first rounds were even, as Chavez tried to impose himself on the Mexican Olympian and they exchanged heavy blows. But after the first four rounds, Chavez, who had issues making weight, began to look much slower. Chavez, the son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, tired and Rodriguez capitalized on the fatigue, punishing his rival with combinations. Finally, after months of controversy and rescheduling of this highly anticipated fight, Rodriguez defeated Chavez by scores of 96-94, 97-93 and 98-92. Rodriguez's record is billed as 15-0 but he participated in paid fights in the World Series of Boxing, making 17-8 a more accurate mark. Chavez is now 41-9-1.
