Mijares to headline pay-per-view show

Edited Press Release: WBC 115-pound titlist Cristian Mijares, headlines the July 13, 2007 "The Gladiators" pay-per-view event live from the Gomez Palacio in Durango, Mexico. Mijares will be facing what appears to be an overrated fighter, Teppei Kikui (21-5, 4 KOs). Kikui is coming off a loss to Kohei Kono in his last fight, a fact apparently untroubling to the WBC championship committee. Mijares (31-3-2, 12 KOs) has been on a roll: he captured the WBC interim belt last September by split decision against Katsushige Kawashima (30-4) in Japan. The southpaw then decisioned Reynaldo Lopez (28-3-2), and went back to Japan to stop Kawashima (30-5) in the tenth round. On the largest stage of Mijares' career this past April, fighting colorful Jorge Arce (46-3-1) on HBO, he came of age with an impressive, one-sided victory by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110, 117-11).  Also on the pay-per-view show, Eric Ramirez (20-4-1, 15 KOs) faces Lorenzo "Explosivo" Trejo (29-15, 16 KOs) in a WBC minimum weight elimination bout, while Gamaliel "Platano" Diaz (21-6-2, 9 KOs) meets Naoki Matsuda (27-7-3, 10 KOs) in a WBC 126-pound title eliminator. "The Gladiators" will be broadcast live (10 PM/ET) and distributed for pay-per-view on the DISH Network for a suggested retail price of $19.95.
