Mijares combines WBA & WBC titles at 115 pounds

Cristian Mijares W12 Alexander Munoz... On a pay-per-view show held in Mexico, Cristian Mijares unified two of the four major titles in the 115-poundweight class with a split-decision victory over Alexander Munoz on Saturday night. The win added Munoz' WBA belt to the WBC version already owned by Mijares. Two official scores favored Mijares (35-3-2 with 14 KOs) by 115-111 and 115-112, while a third judge saw the fight 115-113 in favor of Munoz (32-3 with 27 KOs). The southpaw Mijares has been on quite a run since his last loss, which came as 20-year old in 2002. Mijares captured the WBC belt from Katsushige Kawashima in Japan on September 18, 2006, won a rematch, and mate notable defenses against Jorge Arve and Jose Navarro. Munoz was a two-time WBA super flyweight champion. source: yahoo! sports
