Popular 20-year-old junior middleweight Vito Mielnicki Jr., from Roseland, NJ, opened up the SHOWTIME YouTube free-preview portion of the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia undercard from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Improving to 15-1 (10 KOs), Mielnciki Jr. earned an impressive fourth-round TKO victory against Jose Sanchez Charles, from Tamaulipas, Mexico. Winning his seventh straight bout since suffering his lone defeat in April 2021, Mielnicki Jr., 153.1 lbs., dropped Sanchez Charles, 154.3 lbs., twice near the end of round three with short right hands to the head. In round four, another right hand to the head felled Charles hard, leading to an immediate referee stoppage 33 seconds into the frame. As Charles was throwing a wide left hook, Mielnicki Jr. countered with a sharp right hook to the jaw to end the contest. Charles is now 20-4-1 (12 KOs). With new trainer Raul “Chino” Rivas in his corner for the fifth time, Mielnicki Jr. picked up the vacant WBA Continental Americas super welterweight title. Before his 2019 pro debut, Mielnicki Jr. was a touted amateur, having compiled a 147-22 record. He was a four-time Junior National Golden Gloves champion, a two-time Silver Gloves National champion, a two-time Ringside World champion, and a two-time US Junior National Champion.
