Michael Moorer returns on December 9

Press Release: Former heavyweight champion Michael Moorer is returning to the ring wars beginning with a ten-round bout against hard-hitting Cliff Couser on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. “Night of Heavyweights”, which is presented by Seminole Warriors Boxing, will also feature unbeaten Roman Greenberg.  Moorer (47-4-1, 37 KOs) terrorized the light heavyweight division in the late 1980s and early 90s when he ruled as WBO titlist.  Moving up to the heavyweight class after relinquishing his crown, Moorer defeated Bert Cooper in an unforgettable war in 1992 to win the WBO heavyweight title, and then showed another dimension to his game when he outboxed Evander Holyfield over twelve rounds to win the world heavyweight championship in April of 1994.

Later that year, Moorer was upset by hall of famer George Foreman, but by June of 1996, ‘Double M’ had regained the IBF belt by defeating Axel Schulz, and he would hold the belt until he lost to Holyfield in a 1997 rematch.  After a three year layoff, Moorer returned to the ring and compiled an 8-2-1 record capped off by a ninth round stoppage of former world champion Vassiliy Jirov in December of 2004.  Moorer then moved outside the ring to work as a trainer and received many positive notices on his work in the corner, but on December 9th, the former champ will return to his first love – fighting.

A puncher nicknamed “The Twin Tyson”, St. Louis’ Cliff Couser (26-10-2, 14 KOs) has beaten big names such as James ‘Quick’ Tillis, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, and Dale Crowe. Couser is coming off a fourth round TKO win over Troy Beets in April.

Only 24 years old, Tel Aviv native Roman Greenberg (22-0, 15 KOs) has been improving with each fight as he approaches his physical prime.  Six foot three, and with the ability to box or bang in the ring, Greenberg has been a consensus pick among fight insiders as a heavyweight to watch in the coming years.  Greenberg holds wins over veterans Kendrick Releford and Julius Francis and is eager to make a good impression in his US pay-per-view debut. Greenberg's opponent plus an exciting undercard will be announced shortly.
