Michael Grant wins despite suspect timekeeping

Michael Grant W12 Paul Marinaccio... Former contender Michael Grant is working to stay relevant in the heavyweight division.  On Friday in Niagra Falls, New York, he floored southpaw Paul Marinaccio twice with right hands in the seventh round. Marinaccio fought back and ended up going the full twelve-round distance. Grant won by unanimous decision. Journalist Frank Thomas Croisdale of the Niagra Falls Reporter implies that some funny business was going on with the official timekeeper that appeared to favor Marinaccio, the hometown fighter. At the end of the seventh round, when Marinaccio had just been down twice, Croisdale reports that a full extra minute was added to the between-round respite, thus allowing Marinaccio extra time to recover. Croisdale said the shenanigans continued in the ninth round. Marinaccio began rallying, and the bell rang at least 40 seconds late, thus extending Marinaccio's chance to score a knockout. It should be noted that the fight was not conducted under the auspices of the Melvina Lathan's New York Athletic Commission. source: Niagra Falls ReporterÂ
