Mexico's Asley ‘Chiquita’ Gonzalez (16-2, 7 KOs) will defend her WBC super flyweight world title against Spain's Mary ‘Maribicho’ Romero (10-6, 2 KOs) on December 12th at the Grand Elysée Rotherbaum, in Hamburg, Germany during the WBC convention. Romero is faced with a new opportunity and will end the year with a fourth fight. In February she traveled to Denmark to compete for a world title with very little notice, losing to WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund. Romero split two fights since then, meaning she is 1-2 this year and has been rewarded with another world title fight. The champion González comes to this fight with six consecutive victories, the last two against Lourdes Juárez, from whom she snatched the title in October 2022. She has not fought since March of 2023. The WBC reports that, about three weeks in advance of the 115-pound limit, González weighed in at 118.8 pounds and Romero at 119.3.
