Mesi sues Nevada Athletic Commission

By Scott Shaffer

Having exhausted his administrative options, heavyweight Joe Mesi has filed a lawsuit against the Nevada Athletic Commission in a bid to get his boxing license restored, according to Associated Press reports.  Mesi was placed on medical suspension after it was revealed he suffered bleeding on the brain after a win over Vassiliy Jirov. Mesi presented the Nevada Commision with testimony that his injury had healed and therefore did not place him at greater risk compared to other boxers. That testimony, however, was rejected, and the Commision ruled that Mesi failed to prove he should be allowed to box again. Now a court will decide, but Mesi's lawyers will have the burden of proving that the Commission's decision was wrong.
