Mendez and Heraldez battle to a draw

Argenis Mendez D10 Juan Heraldez... At Brooklyn, New York's Barclay Center, former 130-pound title holder Argenis Mendez held undefeated Juan Heraldez to a ten-round draw in a 140-pound contest. Judge Julie Lederman scored it 97-93 for Mendez, but she was overruled by two 95-95 scorecards. Heraldez was not that aggressive and gave away the last round, prompting Mendez (25-5-3) to say afterwards, "I thought I won the fight. He didn't do anything to me. How did he win the fight? My speed and my power made it difficult for him. I thought my counterpunching was really good. He tired toward the later rounds and that let me get a little closer to him to get my offense going." Heraldez (16-0-1) landed a few more punches than Medez did over the course of the fight (according to Compubox), and he too thought he won: "I didn't think it was a draw. He didn't do anything that hurt me at any point. I could have gotten started a little earlier. I could have boxed him and thrown more punches in the early rounds. I probably left myself open too much. I just need to clean that up a bit against a crafty veteran like that.  He wasn't really engaging with me. He was just trying to move around and pick his shots, but nothing I wasn't ready for. I'll either take the rematch with Mendez or move forward toward a my goal of a world title." source: showtime / press release
