Meet the U.S. Olympic boxing team

Eight Team USA boxers will be competing at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, including four males and four females. These eight boxers are set to take the ring in Paris for the Olympic Games, which begins on July 27th and run through August 10th. On this most American of holidays, let's take a look at these eight US Olympic boxers...  In the small border town of Laredo,Texas, there’s a noteworthy story as Laredo is celebrating its first Olympian as Jennifer Lozano qualified to Paris at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games. Lozano secured two medals in 2023 including silver at the Pan American Games and bronze at the 2023 Gee Bee International tournament.
 
Also etching her name in boxing history is Morelle McMane (Cleveland) as she became the first female boxer to qualify for an Olympic Games from Cleveland at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. She qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with her silver medal performance. McCane, who began the sport as a teenager, has quickly risen the ranks, bringing
home a gold and two silver medals in her three international tournaments in 2023. 
 
Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.) and Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) round out the females who have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Gonzales qualified this past October as she brought home the bronze medal at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games. The California native fought through adversity as she recently returned to boxing in 2021 after stepping away from the sport for a few years after years of dominating in the junior and youth ranks. The 60 kg boxer took gold medals at the Junior World Championships, back-to-back Youth World Championships and Youth Olympics before finishing second at the 2016 Olympic Trials, then eventually taking a break from the sport in 2018. The Olympic boxer will now head to Paris, on the 10-year anniversary of her taking gold at the Youth Olympic Games.
 
As for Mendoza, she represents Team USA as their young rising star. She recently just earned her Olympic Games spot at the second Olympic Games World Qualification Tournament and is the youngest of the eight boxers at 20 years old. Mendoza made her presence known in 2023, where she earned three international tournaments medals.
 
As for the qualified male boxers Jahmal Harvey (Oxon Hill, Md.) and Joshua Edwards. (Houston, Texas) punched their tickets at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games. Harvey, 21, is a gold medalist at the 2021 Elite World Championships and was the first American male to win an elite world title since 2007. Harvey won gold at the Pan American Games which is where he earned his ticket to the Olympic Games. The Oxon Hill native is also a multi-time gold medalist at USA Boxing National Championships at the junior, youth and elite levels.
 
As for Edwards, he will represent the historic boxing city of Houston in the super heavy weight division. Standing at six feet three inches tall and weighing around 220 pounds, the Houston has a resume that speaks for itself. He placed third at the 2023 Czech Republic Grand Prix and the 2022 AMBC Elite Championships, as well as taking gold at the 2021 USA Boxing Elite National Championships.
 
Omari Jones, 21-year-old-native from Orlando, Fla., punched his ticket to Paris at the first Olympic Games World Qualification Tournament. Jones was the only Team USA boxer to qualify in Italy. Before Italy Jones won consecutive golds at the 2023 GeeBee International Tournament and the Czech Republic Grand Prix in the 71 kg weight class. He is also the 2021 Elite World Championship silver medalist.
 
Lastly, Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas) just recently qualified to Paris at the second Olympic Games World Qualification Tournament. Hill was born into the sport of boxing as he trained in George Foreman’s gym and was event baptized by George Foreman himself. Hill is known for his unique style of boxing and is inspiring the younger generations with his style of boxing. Since placing third in the 2020 Olympic Trials, Hill has earned himself a gold medal at the 2022 AMBC Elite Championships, a silver medal at the 2021 Elite World Championships and a bronze at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games.
