Duncan Dokiwari set for undercard
Press Release: Zeferino Entertainment will return to the new Midwest boxing hotbed of Junction City, Kansas to host a night of boxing on Saturday, August 26, 2006. The card will feature David Medina (11-1, 7 KOs) against his toughest foe to date, Billy Lyell (12-2, 2 KOs). Medina, who will defend a regional junior middleweight belt, has really connected with Kansas fans, according to his promoter, Zef Ramirez. “They really came out for David the last time we did a show out there. It was really something.” Medina’s exciting knockouts have led to his promoter billing him as “the Gatti of the Rockies”. But even Medina’s most ardent supporters are expecting a tough fight against Lyell, who has just two losses on his resume both decisions to undefeated boxers. Lyell can hardly be considered another opponent. In the co-feature, Marvin "Much Too Much" Cordova (11-0, 7 KOs) will fight a ten rounder for a vacant youth junior welterweight title against Carlos Molina (8-2-1, 4 KOs). Molina is best known as the man who held highly touted Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. to a draw back in December of 2005. Although Chavez came back to win a decision over Molina in February, it did little to tarnish Molina’s new, the draw remains a solid acheivment.
Also on the show, Carlos De Leon (14-1-2 11 KO’s) will return to
battle in a super middleweight bout against Ohio’s Corey “The Boss Man” Budd (7-11, 7 KO’s). De Leon has shown flashes of brilliance, but Budd comes to the fight with above average power, despite his record. In a six-round affair, Starr Promotions newest acquisition, heavyweight Duncan Dokiwari (22-3, 19 KOs) will end his two year layoff with a six-round fight against an opponent to be named later. Dokiwari is ambitiously slated to fight five times before the end of the year.
Former Olympic alternate Torrence “Dynamite” Daniels (6-2-1, 3 KOs) will make his first visit to a Kansas boxing ring, as he is penciled in for a six round affair. Also rounding off the card will be Chantel “Gorgeous Babe” Cordova (4-0, 3 KOs) as she attempts to crack into the top ten of the female minimumweight division in a six round bout. Cordova will be fighting her toughest opponent to date on the 26th: fellow undefeated prospect Valarie Rix (4-0 1 KO). Rix is best known for stopping Christina Kwan in the first round back in June. She also won three decisions over the tough Camela Parker (who is best known for giving Cordova a toughest than anticipated fight back in May). Finally, Josh Myers (1-0) will appear in a four-round welterweight fight against debuting Antonio Lopez.
Tickets can be obtained in advance by calling Zeferino Entertainment at 1-785-223-6778. As this card has two title fights, it is advised to purchase tickets early.
