This Friday, Ike Quartey will end a nearly five-year retirement when he returns to action in his native country of Ghana.  Quartey, 34-2-1, is best known for losing exciting decisions to Oscar De la Hoya and Fernando Vargas in the late 1990s but he also held the WBA welterweight title for several defenses prior to moving up for the big money fights.  The opponent faced with the nearly impossible task of defeating a national hero on hostile turf is Clint McNeil.  Hailing from Mississippi, McNeil is 15-7 with some ugly losses on his record (he dropped a decision to 9-23-2 Michael Moss last year) but he has never been stopped, so he should provide some indication of what Quartey has left. McNeil, who deserves plenty of respect just for taking the bout, seemingly has no chance of winning a decision in Accra and therefore in order to win, he must knock out Quartey, something De La Hoya and Vargas couldn't do in their primes.  Quartey's name has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Felix Trinidad.  He certainly deserves a free pass in his first fight back, but after such a long layoff, he needs at least two wins before he can be taken seriously as a pay-per-view headliner.
