McCline petitions WBC for rematch with Peter

Press Release: Ortega's long count, Duva, points, and fouls that didn't count add up to rematch!

Heavyweight Jameel McCline has petitioned the WBC to order a rematch between himself and Sam Peter. McCline had Peter down three times but wound up on the wrong end of a unanimous decision. Here are McCline's reasons why he deserves a rematch-- tell us what you think

1. The referee, Mike Ortega issued two long counts worse than Dempsey and Tunney. The first was thirteen seconds from the knockdown until the fight was started and the second a bizarre seventeen seconds. After an eight count that took nine seconds the referee proceeded to ramble on for another eight seconds with an inexplicable number of questions and instructions. After the long eight he said "Come here. Walk towards me. Are you alright? Hands up. You want to continue? You OK? Let's go." An additional nine seconds over the standard eight is nothing short of knockout prevention. He seemed to stall the fight until Sam Peter's head was clear. The only conclusion we can come up with is either through incompetence or a dishonest Mike Ortega may have prevented Jameel McCline from knocking out Sam Peter.? ?

2. In between the fifth and sixth round Mike Ortega said to Sam Peter "This is your last warning, next time you hit behind the head I'm going to take a point." This was after allowing five previous illegal blows behind the head by Peter. After that, Peter landed obvious illegal blows four more times. Once in the ninth, twice in the eleventh and once in the twelfth round. Ortega failed to deduct a single point when he should of deducted four according to his own instructions. Is it normal to see in a fight nine blows behind the head and three obvious low blows including one that looked intentional, where points weren't deducted? A disqualification under this circumstance would have been more reasonable. This was worse than the Golota vs Bowe I or II.? ?

3. Billy Costello (a former Don King fighter ) scored the fight ten rounds to two, which seems way out of whack in a fight where every round other than the second and third was close. ? ?

4. Steve Weisfeld scored the second round after Jameel knocked peter down at the end of a fairly uneventful round which nobody dominated.? ?

5. Dino Duva, Sam Peter's Promoter approached the official scorers table to attempt to check the cards three times after being warned not to in violation of the rules.  Dino could easily relay that Peter was up on the cards to the corner giving them an unfair advantage similar to the patriots camera incident. Dino's presence may have also affected how the judges scored the close rounds even unintentionally. They couldn't help but see him and the looming presence of the promoter repeatedly checking the cards would be intimidating to even the most experienced of judges.?

6. If James Toney had grounds for a rematch than Jameel McCline not only has grounds for a rematch but the NYSAC and the WBC should consider ruling this spectacle of errors a no contest.
