In the aftermath of Floyd “Money” Mayweather’s unanimous decision victory over Miguel Cotto, Mayweather arrived at the post-fight press conference bit more bruised than usual after one of his victories. “I gave the fans what they wanted to see, but I could have made it a very, very easy fight and outpointed him, or just boxed him,” said Mayweather. "I was going for the knockout tonight and trying to break this guy down. Miguel Cotto fought a great fight and hit me with some good shots but he never hurt me. Cotto fought his ass off tonight but I wasn’t going to fold under pressure no matter what' I was built for this.” Cotto did not attend the post fight press conference. npr dod he give any interviews in the ring immediately following the reading of the scorecards, which all favored Mayweather.

Mayweather stated that he wasn’t sure if he would continue fighting and acknowledged that he would be “going away” on June 1st, a reference to a short jail term due to a domestic violence plea bargain agreement. He also explained his absence from the Mayweather Boxing club on Thursday after the pre-fight press conference. “I usually like to box right up until the weigh-in but I was sick this week and I had hand problems as well so I wasn’t able to.”

Mayweather said that he doesn’t usually watch tape on an opponent but did watch some on Cotto. “The right hook and the uppercut were working tonight,” stated Floyd. “I watched a few rounds of the Shane Mosley fight [which Cotto won] and saw that Shane was using the right hook (looping right hand) so I thought that would be my money shot. I also watched some of the Cotto-Zab Judah fight and saw Zab hit him with an uppercut that kind of buckled him.”

These days a Floyd Mayweather media session can’t come and go without the mention of Manny Pacquiao and Saturday's post-fight press conference was no different. Contrary to his statement during his MGM Grand Arrival on Tuesday, Mayweather made it clear that the fight will not be made anytime soon. “I’m really tired of the media and fans being fooled,” said Floyd. “The truth is that [Pacquiao's promoter] Bob Arum is not going to let the fight happen. I spoke to Pacquiao myself and offered him $40 million and also said that I would wire $20 million to him within 48 hours. He wants a 50/50 split but he is not doing the same (pay-per-view) numbers as I am, so how does [a 50-50 split] make sense? The fans and the public are being fooled, once he is free from Bob Arum the fight can happen.”

Floyd addressed whether or not the way he chose to fight Cotto would bring Pacquiao and Arum any closer to him. “It’s not my fault, the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is not going to happen. I’m trying, but this fight is not going to happen. Mayweather Promotions, I run my company but Pacquiao has a boss. I don’t answer to no one, he has to answer to somebody. Someone gives him a date to fight, I make my own date.”

Considering the Pacquiao fight is on hold at best, Mayweather addressed his future and possible opponents, or not. “There’s really nobody out there for me to fight so I can’t really say where my career is going to go from here. There is nothing but the young strong pups coming up. Canelo [Saul Alvarez] is s a hell of a fighter you know. I had a chance to watch him tonight. I don’t know where we are going to go from here, because we have basically fought everyone in the sport.”

Mayweather seems content with his legacy as it stands but surprisingly doesn’t want to make a prediction as to where he ranks among the all time greats. “I’m not going to rate myself, I was just happy with the victory tonight,” said a relatively humble Mayweather... I hold the record for the highest gate in boxing history. I hold the record for the largest pay-per-view in boxing but someday I want to see a young fighter break my record, that’s what it’s about. “

Although Mayweather didn’t mention it, there is one possible scenario that would suit Floyd perfectly. Try this one on for size, in November, Floyd Mayweather takes on Timothy Bradley coming off of a huge win over Manny Pacquiao.
