Boxingtalk.com has learned that former welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga will be retried on rape charges, stemming from an incident in Nicaragua while training for his showdown last October with Felix Trinidad.  Mayorga was initially acquitted of all charges arising from the incident during a trial immediately following his brutal KO loss to Trinidad.  However, in a decision published by the legal service Lexis, an appeals court in Managua, Nicaragua has overturned that verdict, and ordered a new trial in the case.  Mayorga has maintained his innocence since the charges were first brought, claiming that he had consensual sex with the woman in a Managua hotel, and paid for the service.  No word yet on whether this latest development will interfere with Mayorga’s proposed July 23 showdown with WBC junior middleweight champion Javier Castilejo.  Boxingtalk will continue to keep you updated on this breaking story.
