Matthew Hatton in action on Woods-Gonzales undercard!

PRESS RELEASE: Matthew Hatton will look to continue his ascent up the British welterweight rankings by appearing on the undercard of Clinton Woods' first defence of his IBF light-heavyweight title against Julio Gonzalez at Sheffield's Hallam FM Arena on September 9th. The show, promoted by Fight Academy, will mark Hatton's first appearance since he parted company with promoter Frank Warren. Matthew will be joined in his corner by brother Ricky, the reigning IBF light-welterweight champion, who himself is currently at loggerheads with Warren.

"Out of loyalty to his family, Matthew has decided to pull out of his
English welterweight title fight against Ross Minter after what's gone on between Ricky and Frank," explained Hatton's father, Ray Hatton.

"We're really pleased to be fighting on Fight Academy's forthcoming show and would like to thank Dennis Hobson for providing us with the opportunity. We've known Dennis for a while, he's always been pleasant and courteous and he stepped in very quickly. The night very much belongs to Clinton (Woods), but Matthew is looking forward to adding to the success of the show," he added.

Since turning pro at 19, Hatton has won 24 of his 27 fights and is unbeaten in his last 11. He will box in an eight-round contest against an as yet unnamed opponent.

"Matthew is a great acquisition to the bill and with Ricky in his corner there will be some added spice to the evening," said Dennis Hobson, one half of Fight Academy along with Robert Waterman.

"We're delighted to have a connection with the Hatton's. They have an excellent reputation and are courted throughout the boxing world. The fact that Matthew is appearing on this show suggests they hold Fight Academy in high esteem. We're hoping to have a full house in what should be a cracking evening's entertainment."

The 10-fight show will also herald the debut of Commonwealth games silver medallist Steven Birch, unbeaten super featherweight prospect Femi Fehintola, rising lightweight star Nick Smedley and former Commonwealth welterweight champion James Hare.
