Matchroom issued a brief statement saying the heavyweight championship rematch is now officialy scheduled. Andy Ruiz Jr. will defend his IBF/WBO/WBA heavyweight titles in a rematch against Anthony Joshua in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on December 7th. The Mexican-American Ruiz became champion by defeating the British Joshua in New York City. Joshua and his promoter, Matchroom, had a mandatory rematch clause in Ruiz's contract and exercised it. Despite lacking the contractual right to do so, Ruiz had stated he would not give Joshua a rematch in the United Kingdom. He apparently has gotten his wish. Matchroom said it will provide further details at a press conference on Monday August 12th.
