Matchmaker injured in press conference brawl!

Matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz was injured during a brawl that broke out a New York City press conference to promote an upcoming pay-per-view show. According to a witness, the ugly incident started at Gallagher's Steakhouse when one of the boxers Lewkowicz works with, Sultan Ibragimov, threatened his scheduled opponent, Lance Whitaker, by putting his fist in Whitaker's face.  The 6'8" Whitaker responded violently by slapping, punching and choking Ibragimov. Lewkowicz, a much smaller man than the two heavyweights, reportedly was hit with punches from both men as he tried to intervene. He was taken away in a stretcher. Whitaker left the scene before police arrived, and there are unconfirmed reports that he hurt his hand in the melee, which would throw the bout into jeopardy. Whitaker and Ibragimov were supposed to face each other on December 15, 2005 on a Warrior Boxing show in Hollywood, Florida. Boxingtalk wishes Lewkowicz, perhaps the top matchmaker in the game today, a speedy recovery.
