Maske being trained by Wolke for comeback

Press Release: Henry Maske's long-time trainer and mentor Manfred Wolke will be cleared to coach the "Gentleman" in his comeback fight against Virgil Hill. "From the first second on it has been my wish to have Manfred Wolke in my corner," the former IBF light heavyweight champion said. "I am very happy that this has been made possible and it makes me very optimistic for the fight." Maske will return to the ring on March 31 when he tries to avenge the only loss of his career, a split decision against Virgil Hill. Wolke, a former Olympic gold medallist, finally got the green light from Wilfried Sauerland after the manager had witnessed the embarrassing ring return of Axel Schulz. "At first I didn't like the idea of the comeback bouts, especially not the one from Schulz," said Sauerland. "But after watching Schulz I knew we had to support Henry. After all, it was the Gentleman who helped boxing to gigantic popularity in Germany in the nineties. Henry has done so much for the sport of boxing that he deserves as much support as possible." In March 1993, Maske saw off "Prince" Charles Williams to claim the IBF title. He defended the belt ten times before Virgil Hill handed him the first loss in his farewell bout in 1996. Wolke believes Maske´s return to the ring will be a successful one despite ten years off. "Henry has kept his body in good shape in the last couple of years," said Wolke. "And his boxing skills are great and beyond doubt. We will prepare him very well. I am sure he will win the rematch."
