Sycuan Ringside Promotions’ No. 1-ranked bantamweight Mauricio Martinez faces former world champion Gerry Penalosa Oct. 21 in El Paso, Texas. The 31-year-old Martinez, who is ranked No. 1 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and was the WBO’s bantamweight champion during 2000 to 2002, has a record of 31-6-1 with 21 knockouts.

The 34-year-old Penalosa, who was the World Boxing Council super flyweight champion during 1997 and 1998, has a record of 50-5-2 with 33 knockouts.

Both Martinez, from Panama, and Penalosa, from the Philippines, are southpaws.
