Juan M. Marquez KO9 Jimrex Jaca... In Hidalgo, Texas, featherweight Juan Manuel Marquez suffered a long, jagged cut on his forehead that left his face a mask of crimson in the eighth round. Referee Laurence Cole called the ring doctor over to examine Marquez and bizarrely instructed Marquez that he was ahead on the scorecards. In fact, Marquez was ahead, pitching a shutout after eight rounds even though the fight was competitive. Despite the profuse bleeding and the heads up from the referee, Marquez continued fighting and actually turned his intensity up a notch. In the next round, a double left hook, one tight followed by a sweeping one, dumped a stunned Jaca on the seat of his pants for a ten count. It was exactly the type of dramatic performance boxing fans love, and it could propel Marquez, now 46-3-1, into a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. For those keeping track of belts, Marquez retains the WBO interim title. source: HBO Boxing After Dark
